Rev.Fr.M. Jero Selvanayagam
B.A. (Jaffna), B.Th(Rome), Dip. In Ed, M.A. (Ed.Mgt) (Lond).
Rev.Fr.M. Jero Selvanayagam, assumed duties as Rector of St. Patrick's College, Jaffna on 1st January 2008. He had his education at St. Patrick's College. He entered the University of Jaffna and graduated in Arts in 1981. Subsequently he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Theology from Urbania University, Rome, and he was ordained Priest on 06th August 1985.
After four years of Pastrol Ministry, he joined the Tutorial Staff of St. Patrick's College in 1989 as a Graduate Teacher and the Warden of the College hostel. He completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Education with Merit in 1994. He was then appointed the Prefect of Studies of the Junior Secondary Section in 1991 and in 1993 Senior Secondary Section. Thereafter in 1996 he went to London where he successfully completed the Masters Degree in Education Management from the University of London in 1998. On returning to Sri Lanka he was appointed as the Vice Rector of the College in May 1998.
Fr. Jero was engaged in teaching English in the Senior and Advance Level Sections and later Social Studies in the English Medium Classes. The Sports Council and the Scholarship Board of the College too came directly under him at this time. He was acting as Rector from July 2001 to March 2002.
With the view of enhancing the English Medium Students of the College, he organized Special Classes with the help of the English Unit of the Department of Education.
His enthusiasm in Sports and games resulted in great achievement in these fields, many new ground records were setup. The cricket and football teams were able to go up to the finals in various tournaments.
The College has been given a new face lift with planting of trees in the college premises. The greenery of the College gives calm and comfortable learning atmosphere. A geography room was setup in 2008 and the necessary Audio, Video aids were acquired for enhanced learning.
With his long experience in management and commitment to quality development, the College will be able to achieve its new vision "Pursuing Excellence in Education and Character".
