RT REV DR THOMAS SAVUNDRANAYAGAM Bishop of Jaffna, - Patron With the appointment of Bishop Thomas Savundaranayagam in 1992 as the Bishop of Jaffna Diocese, St.Patrick’s College came under his patronage. He was nominated as the first Bishop of the Diocese of Mannar on 26th of January 1981 while he was doing his doctoral studies in Biblical Theology at Urbania University in Rome. He was born in Kayts and had his Primary education at St.Antony’s College, Kayts and his Secondary education at St.Patrick’s College, Jaffna. After completing his priestly studies at National Seminary, Ampitiya, he was ordained a priest at St. Mary’s Cathedral on 21st December 1963 for Jaffna diocese. After a decade of service in different parishes he went to Bangalore to earn his Diploma in Catechetics. On his return he was appointed as the Director of the Diocesan Catechetical Centre. In 1977 he went to Rome for higher studies and returned in 1981 with a doctorate in Biblical Theology along with the appointment as Bishop of Mannar. As Chief Pastor and Manager of St.Patrick’s College his fatherly love and ever abiding interest in the school is manifested not only in his paternal guidance and financial assistance but also by his physical presence at all the important events of the College.
