Rev. Dr. Justin Gnanapragasam,
Rector of St. Patrick’s College embarked on the mission of
bringing computer technology to the children of Jaffna. His continued
effort has resulted in the form of a fully equipped state of the
art Information Technology lab. The first computer class was powered
by the Canadian Institute of Information Technology.
The modern computer
furniture has been specially designed to give maximum comfort and
usability, connected with headphones, which are used for individual
interactive training courses. There are 28 computers with multi
media facilities. All the machines are networked and could be used
to access online educational programmes. At present, there are 700
students following various computer courses. Students from grade1-9
are allocated time in the regular school timetable. The courses
are conducted at four levels to suit the level of the students.
The courses on Information
Technology have been structured at 4 levels to suit the school students.
Level I - (Kids program) for students from grades
1 - 5, designed for learning Mathematics and English with computer
learning software. The kids have a wonderful time with amusing games
and activities entertaining and stimulating hours of creative thinking.
Level II - Fundamentals of computer technology
& utilization which equip the student with knowledge to optimize
results in terms of speed and quality including internet.
Leve III - A+ Certification course (International
Exam/Certification) which qualifies the student as a PC maintenance,
upgrade, and repair expert . A+ credential validates that the student
has reached a level of competence that is accepted and valued by
the industry.
Leve lV - Microsoft Certified Systems Engineers
Part 1 on Microsoft Windows 2000 credential is the premier certification
for professionals who design and implement the infrastructure for
business solutions based on the Microsoft Windows 2000 platform
and Microsoft Windows Server System.
Access and instructions
are also provided for online IT education on various Microsoft courses.
